My Tattoo!

So lately at work and school I've been getting a lot of questions and comments about my tattoo! Especially since its goodbye to the long sleeve sweaters and hello to the summer dresses and tank tops.
So as you can see its two hands in the shape of a heart with a crown on top. Now for those of you who don't know its called a Calddagh symbol! It's Irish and yes I am Irish as well as Puerto Rican. This symbol is most commonly used on wedding rings because of the symbolism of the hands, heart, and crown. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. Whats really cool is that the ring can be worn various different ways to show different things. Wearing it one way could mean you're not married, but single, another way could be that you're engaged, and another that you're married! I just think it'd such a great and meaningful thing in my culture.

Now, I'm not married, but I did get this tattoo on my wrist for myself. In high school I went through a lot of different things. And it was really hard for me to go through my parents separation and a lot of bullying that went on at school. I dealt with it in some really unhealthy ways. So when I graduated I realized I needed to stop caring about the bullies and learning how to deal with my parents divorce in healthier ways, so I got this tattooed on my body more as a promise to myself. I was promising myself to be loyal to myself and to love myself no matter what anyone else says. So this tattoo is really meaningful to me.

Do you have any tattoos? I'd like to hear about your tattoo stories and what they mean to you!
